Vintage bridal crowns

Traditional French “globe de mariee” displays were for couples to preserve wedding souvenirs and tell the story of their romance, wedding and life together. These were often placed in a prominent part of the home, often in the formal dining room. They held the bridal tiara or crown, and items the bride and groom chose to add to the display. They included porcelain pieces, mirrors and gold plated cutouts called ormalu. Each of these items had special significance… the diamond mirrors represented the number of children they hoped to have, birds, daisies or roses in the display meant love, leaves: the longevity of the marriage, orange blossoms signified purity and chastitiy.
